Common Questions
What is DECA?
DECA is a national organization for high school and college students in business, marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Members compete in career-cluster events against students from across the country and internationally.
How does DECA compete?
Events include individual roleplays, team decision-making cases, written business plans, and objective exams. Six career clusters: Marketing, Finance, Hospitality, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, and Personal Finance. Competition advances from District to State to ICDC.
What's the Novi DECA format?
Two tracks. Non-competitive members attend four practices, participate in mock testing, and complete a mock roleplay. Competitive members have completed a non-competitive year, attend all practices, and compete at District 5 with the opportunity to advance to State and ICDC.
Who's eligible to join?
Novi High School students enrolled in Marketing I, Marketing Sports/Fashion/Entertainment, Marketing Store Operations, or IB Business. Check @novi.deca on Instagram or the Schoology groups for current enrollment status.
Chapter Principles
Four principles that define
how this chapter operates.
Competitive Excellence
Novi DECA members have captured national championships, competing against thousands of students worldwide. The chapter has placed multiple members in the top 20 at ICDC.
Academic Rigor
Members work through marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and entrepreneurship in real business scenarios, well past what a single class covers.
Leadership Development
Outside of competition, members take on real responsibility: serving as officers, running chapter events, and organizing community projects.
Community Connection
DECA connects students to the broader business community through partnerships, career exposure, community projects, and national networking.
